I Am Not You!

Opinions are arbitrary, dependant on experience

As are high expectations and unrealistic views,

Everyone’s reality is that little bit different

But remember this, I am not you!

Another rotation around the sun today

Doesn’t necessary make it all true,

I’ll honour your day, your very existence

But remember this, I am not you!

I’m definitely far from perfect, I’m well aware

I have more than one fault, in fact I have a few,

I do have the same rights to defend myself

But remember this, I am not you!

I’m a survivor, as I learn to navigate these waters

Aware I’m extremely independent and stubborn too,

I take things to heart, a little too personally

But remember this, I am not you!

I don’t have the answers to all I don’t know

In fact, sometimes it feels like I don’t have a clue,

Foggy headed, confused, unable to understand

But remember this, I am not you!

***

Any two individuals will deal in their own way

Taking a little longer to think things through,

Backing away from rash and heated impulses

But remember this, I am not you!

***

Enjoy your special day today, celebrate

I’ll be remembering and reminiscing anew,

However, our reality will still be very different

Because once again, I am not you!
