I Am Human
No Matter What The Color Of My Skin.
They told me black is black,
White is white;
They only noticed the color of my skin,
In their eyes,
For me to have feelings is a sin,
One thing is for sure,
It pays to be kind,
In a world where there is enough cruelty,
I wonder why people can't simply be nice,
There are many things their cruel words,
Can't take from me,
My love, my pride, my dignity,
In my culture,
And in my skin'
Beneath my skin is a woman
They do not see;
A woman who cares,
Smiles,
Cries,
Loves,
And hurts;
They will only ever see one thing,
The color of my skin,
They don't see how it feels,
Or the scars they leave,
When they poke fun at me,
But I am powerful,
I am beautiful,
I am strong,
I know my self-worth,
For I am human;
No matter what the color
of my skin.

This is raw and heartfelt! A powerful reminder that dignity and identity run deeper than skin.💖

This was extremely powerful. Loved your poem!
Beautifully written, Carol... and very worthy of a tattoo! I hope to see the day where every person's worth is recognized, separated entirely from colour ❤️ Hugs go out to you
