I am home

wherever I am

By Lisa WillenPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I open my eyes for the first time

I don’t know it’s the first time but I hear soft voices and feel soft touches

And I know I am home

I run in the sun laughing at nothing

Falling I scrape my knee but a gentle hand lifts me and kisses my wound

And I know I am home

The nights have become dark with frightening dreams

Arms reach for me to comfort me and assure me I am safe

And I know I am home

I am changing and my mind races with thoughts that I don’t understand

Voices around me tell me that I will soon understand and to just be patient

And I know I am home

I am working as hard as I can but I can’t seem to pay my bills and the world is caving in

My own thoughts come to me telling me I can do this and I’ve got this

And I know I am home

I am holding my children warm in my arms sleeping so peacefully

I whisper to them that the world can be hard but I will always protect them

And I know I am home

I cradle my grandchildren with love and wonder

My children tell me they love me and my grandchildren smile at me with innocence

And I know I am home

I close my eyes for the last time

I know it’s the last time but I am at peace

And I know I am home.
