I am black.
And as long as I remain so
The shade of my colour
Prohibits love from a rainbow
Although
I'm absorbent
I fortify other's self confidence
From the shadows of my positivity
My vibrance can contrast
Any negative saturation
My melanin shade
Gives safety
And yet...
I am black.
I fear for my child's exposure
To the luma of our colour profile
I fear for their texture
Their embedded
Tint
It doesn't matter
If they are mixed with
Rights
Greatness
Beauty
My spouse can give them
Courage
Might
Yearning
Knowledge
And yet when I mix
With the rainbow
Black
Will always make Black.
And the pot of gold
Turns to carbon.
I am many colours
With every hue
All the heat
And the pressure
Will turn my pot of carbon into
Diamond.
