I Am a Grey Rock

Rising Up From the Rock Bottom

I am a Grey Rock

Caustic remarks bounce off my

Dull exterior.

Immovable, I

Scorn attempts to chip away

My peace–what nonsense!

***************************

Impenetrable

Foolishness merely washes

O’er my stone-cold face.

***************************

Impervious to

Noxious fumes, acid rain, I

Neither faint nor quake.

***************************

Impregnable, I'm

A fortress, refuge of joy

Thieves repelled, thwarted.

My granite remains

A peak of indifference

To helter skelter.

***************************

My sleek form rises

In the heights, I craft my nest.

Venomous beasts foiled.

***************************

My mountain towers

Where ugly monsters recoil

At my summit calm.

***************************

My rocky shoal shall

Shipwreck your divisive plots--

No match for Scylla.

Should you find yourself

Between a rock and hard place

I am that Grey Rock.

Author's Note: If like me, you struggle with toxic and abusive individuals in your life, the Grey Rock method (found here if you would like more information) has proven invaluable in my personal interactions and growth.
