Humming Bird Hymnal:

Finding Home Through the Songs of a Bird

Lightning crashes as the sky cries.

There I am sitting watching from my window

Pain shoots through my leg. SATURN!

His nail scratches through a tear in my jeans

Genes of cuteness did he receive from the puppy gods

God help me. The thought was a silent whisper

Drowning in the loudness of the storm.

In the Eye of the storm, I remember to breathe

In and out wrappers scatter the floor-

Bored. I see red lights through my blind---

As a bat. I cave.

In one ear, Right Out the other.

Places! Places! exit to your left,

Right, and backwards around that corner---

Pink ribbon scars that never forget.

Lightning crashes as the sky cries.

God decided to play his big drums.

Me and my drum. I sing along.

Danced a little dance to christen my new home,

Sweet Hour of Prayer, Sweet Hour of Prayer

Pray. Believe. And trust you always;

said it once and you wouldn’t again.

Again I do this dance with you.

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand,

You floating free like a bird.

Lightning crashes, the sky crescendos

The hymnal of a hummingbird.

There I am sitting watching my window;

The eye of my soul.

My soul shifts to yesteryear,

12 of them had I been given.

A new home with a yard and a fence to keep us Away

In a Manger, Christmas all year.

Coal I didn’t receive.

Gifted was a panic attack wrapped in a bow

Tie together the pieces of a broken brain-

Power given through the love of a mother.

Mamma bird watches from the window,

Pain pierces through me.

Lightning crashes as the sky cries.

Again I do this dance with you.

The trees wave their hands around as the wind ruffles their hair---

Braids protected yours underneath a silver wig always worn---

Out of the other ear into the caves.

Exit to your left.

Left foot right stomp…everybody clap your hands!

Yours were warm as you twirled me.

Around and around and around we go

Faster! Faster! sped years to adulthood

I never slowed down.

Highway to the Danger Zone

Highway to heaven?

“No, its Iowa.”

Walked with your blue bird shoes,

Mamma bird dances with me anew.

Again I do this dance for you.

Lightning crashes, the skies cry.

There I am sitting watching from my window-

Pane shakes as the winds surround me,

Myself ,and I dance around the minefield of boxes in this house.

You were a perfect square

I was an oval.

Not measuring up--

Side down and All Around

The world, every boy, every girl, one shot: Expectation Town.

Uptown girl living in her uptown world;

In His hands where He plays drums.

Only then were we able to sing along, too

Melodies faded out and dry.

Lightning crashes, and Mr. Moon brought a handkerchief

To dry his eyes. Windows of the soul,

You always said.

Here I am sitting and looking through them.

One single candle lit.

A green traffic light burns, and there faded is your silver hair protected.

Perched on the window pain,

Mamma bird sits.

Dancing underneath painted lights,

Dancing through the storm,

Here I stand dancing with you.

Home: the notes sung from mamma bird.

Bees breeze by flowers sweet,

Hours blow by.

Lightening crashes, skies fade out-

Side is wet, outside can’t be trusted.

The sun makes a surprise visit.

Again, I dance with you.
