People don’t write to one another any longer.
By write I mean take pen to paper.
Personal, physical expression.
The handwritten word is silently slipping away like rain on a windowpane; replaced by the tap, tap, of a disinterested keyboard striking out picture-book fonts in an impeccable display of modern linguistics.
Gone are the ink wells and Fountains, ballpoints, and Bics. The art of sharpening the #2 lay asleep in old pocket knives and dull bladed, wood- handled steak sets.
We’ve lost the tangibility of it all!
D-r-a-w-n out words that reflect hesitation, hurried runalongsentences that push our excitement into the vocabulary.
Oh, what about the dreaded line through a misspelled word?
Aghhh or, maybe more of a squiggle.
Maybe still an obliterator that just blackens the entire, whole word out. You hold the paper up to the light hoping to make out the mistake. What did they intend to say?
The handwritten word has the capability to speak far beyond the syllables spilled out on a page.
There is no automatic spell check
No grammar moderator
Nothing to mask the character of the words.
The pen, the pencil, magic marker, the quill, even the crayon
Yes she just delivers it as it is,
Real and raw.
It’s HUMAN.
And that’s what I am, Human.
So, I just wanted you to know what my handwriting looks like.
