House Rules For New Kids

a poem

By Dane BHPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

on the first night, we say:

be honest

don’t go hungry

(there is food here,

and here, and see this box

with your name on it)

be honest

don’t go hungry

(can I get you a sandwich?)

be honest

(it's been awhile since you ate something)

be honest

(is there something else I can get you?)

be honest

(okay, if you say so)

don’t go hungry

(how about a snack with some protein?)

be honest

don’t go hungry

(tomorrow, we'll go to the store and get whatever you want, okay?)

be honest

don’t go hungry

(you ate before, huh?)

don't go hungry

(I'll just leave this here in case you want it. Later.)

Yes, I can relate to that. I had fussy kids who would have rather starved themselves if they didn't like the food given to them! I think we spent more time shopping than they spent eating the food we bought.
