Hot Cocoa

a poem

The snow is falling fluffy outside

landing delicately on the windowsill.

No one should disturb the blanket

save a lone rabbit wandering home.

Pressing our noses to the panes

we watch the snowflakes dance,

til the spectacle is obscured by

hot breath on frigid glass.

*

Inside, the fire settles in its hearth,

flames crackling to life,

the smell of pine wafting

through the cozy house

as the kettle whistles its tune,

billowing steam brushing softly

on pink cheeks

in this quiet pocket of warmth.

*

We line up homemade mugs

full of powdered chocolate and marshmallows

and watch carefully as each one is poured.

Our fingers curl round the comfort

of cocoa and whipped cream,

the perfect drink

to help us stay inside

on a beautiful, cold day.

This reminds me of a calming soundtrack meant to help you relax and perhaps fall asleep. Beautiful and evocative.
