Hope: Torture with a Purpose

What Really Lay within Pandora's box?

To hope in utter darkness,

To dream in total blackness,

Is this not a torture in itself?

To hope.

To dream,

But never to see.

To see with mind the future,

Yet touch not that sacred place.

To dream of distant pasture,

Never gaining toward that space.

It is a torture no man can force upon another.

Born it is in one man’s heart, for him alone to bear.

But torture leads to only pain,

yet hope can grow to so much more.

Hope in darkness can grow into the light,

And dreams amid despair can turn to day from night.
