Honey, lover, cheater, cry-boy, sucker
What I really mean

Honey, lover, cheater, cry-boy, sucker,
I played these roles, but now I’m just a father.
What I learned from life? Not much, to be
honest: don't curse, don't lie, make your bed,
always return borrowed books back to owners.
Late at night, spinning around my cot,
thinking of those I made cry — thank God,
not many — I wonder if they are happy.
Some of them are now married.
Do I miss something? Except for the ocean
and sunsets, nothing. It's funny, by forty
you hardly remember how to gush
weeping sounds. You sit by the window,
sipping wine, beer, tea, whatever. She's close,
you say that you love her, but what you really
mean is: "I want you to live forever."

This was beautiful. So much softness wrapped in reflection. That last line stayed with me. I felt it deep in my chest. Thank you for sharing this. 💛
