Homeless

Life on the streets

By Heather HeckermanPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

Open your eyes and truly see,

Look farther than you and me.

Do you see our brothers and sisters living, sleeping on the street,

Do you look at them and see defeat?

Do you pass judgment? Automatically assume alcohol or drugs,

Do you ever stop to offer prayers and hugs?

Tell me, please tell me, how would you feel,

Never knowing when you'll get your next meal.

Do you know how it feels to have no bed,

To not have a pillow to comfort your exhausted head?

To be outside in extreme heat, rain and snow,

People staring at you like you're part of a sideshow.

Have you ever lost everything you had,

When you hear someone's story does it make you sad?

How can you go about your day,

Refusing to help because you don't want to go out of your way.

How can you ignore the people you see,

Showing compassion is completely free.

It doesn't take much to show you care,

We all need to come together and learn how to share.

Stop degrading people who are down on their luck,

I guarantee these are the people who would give you their last buck.

It costs to survive in this world, this we know,

Again, compassion is free and so easy to show.

Take the time to help someone that has less,

Let's come together and take away homelessness.

Lets come together and start to give,

Because everyone deserves a place to live.

November 9, 2017.

Written because I know how it feels to be homeless, and no one deserves that. I got blessed by getting into a home before the snow and really cold temperatures, but not everyone has that blessing yet.

Donate old blankets, pillows, clothes to the homeless. Not to some thrift store that is just going to charge people. Homeless people usually don't have money to purchase things. And if you're too scared to give to the homeless yourself, donate to The Homeless Angels. Everything that is donated to them is used and given to the homeless.
