Home with Fine Neighbors

by Julie Lacksonen

She’s a beauty!

My new home

Is the best I could hope for.

Just what is it that I adore?

It isn’t large –

I don’t need a huge home.

It isn’t luxurious –

I don’t need luxury,

Although the kitchen is beautiful.

Loving this space!

Mostly, my home is great

Because I have caring neighbors.

My husband and I feel welcome.

People smile and wave as if we’re old friends.

A neighbor offered her internet password

When my connection was delayed.

Another helped move a heavy table.

COVID didn’t stop a weekly happy hour.

We meet outside.

Sometimes more people, sometimes fewer, but always smiles

And we enjoy each other’s company and conversation.

My neighbor invited us to collect food for several charities.

Such a worthy project

I love that I have found

Home,

Where my neighbors care.
