Slowly letting in

I have a hard time writing about love

Every time

I give my heart away

And say

"Here hold this"

I tenderly care for theirs

Holding their heart in my hands

While they stomp mine out

Until the fire dwindles into nothing

~

I am too afraid

To let love fully in

So I pull away

And hide myself

Like I'm a sin

But I want you

More than anything

~

You caress my cheek

Until there is only softness

Left beneath my hard cold shell

Your voice is a gentle mountain stream

Flowing through the mossy rocks

Smoothing the jagged edges

That cut deep

Into the skin of those

Who didn't handle me

With tender words

~

Your soft gaze

Cracks me open

Until I can no longer hide

Behind the brick wall

I built to protect myself

~

I do not need to be protected from you

You portray a tough masculine exterior

But your eyes welcome me in

They say what words refuse to escape you

Your intoxicating fragrance

Is my favorite high

Your presence soothes

The aching of my bones

And all at once

I nestle in

And feel

I finally

Made it home

It's hard to love when the heart gets broken too many times. There's so much doubt but excitement when it feels right. Glad you found home!

I really admire how you’ve balanced strength and fragility here. The speaker’s hesitation to “let love fully in” feels so human, and your poetic structure reinforces that push-and-pull rhythm perfectly.

It's hard to trust and love again after you've been hurt, but when it's the right person- that love is the easiest thing in the world. It's so beautiful and strong. It's scary diving back in but so worth it. Beautiful poem 😍

I was going to take your poem with me to go make another cup of coffee. But of course someone had to be in the kitchen. So I must wait. I am reading this through tiredness but I hope it makes sense ♥️ Oh my. What an awful person they are and what a tender loving person you are. I loved the line that says 'stomp'. It's almost like they are making it impossible for you to love someone else. Hide yourself like you're a sin 🤯 this line shows how talented you are. How you can pull lines out that hits the point in the middle. '...Who didn't handle me...' the rhymes were so good here. The flow was so smooth. The gaze became your undoing. I've been there. Wow. A very hypnotizing love poem. To sumn it all up. This was raw and masterful. 🤗❤️
