Finding peace in beauty.

Jonny Evans

Absent peace. Forgotten rest.

Calm serenity lost beyond remembrance

as inexorable time shreds confidence,

erodes resilience.

He stands pained and scarred

in the wake of its rabid flow

leaving him fraught - frantic - fatigued.

He stumbles.

Toes absorb a coarse green sweetness

soothing shocked trembling limbs

so long bereft of comfort.

Translucent blooms astound his senses,

offering their soul balm,

their sweet clarity,

their eye salve,

while trees weep their distant glory.

Green bounty envelopes pained limbs -

loss recedes, uncertainty abates,

safety’s yearning dissipates

as will mist in morning sunshine

delicately caressing his skin.

Rhythms steady, breath eases

as beauty permeates all loss.

Floating serenely his mind-breath rests,

finds peace as senses reach

to feed the soul,

to nourish his long-cherished kernel of hope.

Lost from comfort,

from home,

bereft of security,

of place.

Dazed to find it once more.
