Holiday Tradition

A Poem

By Kale SinclairPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

Once stomachs are happily stuffed with turkey and casseroles,

you can hear the fathers, uncles, and brothers snoring and fighting

over the remaining dinner rolls as well as creative control over the

coveted remote control - while the mothers, aunts, and sisters

share dessert wine and assorted homemade profiteroles.

Leftovers are placed in gallon-sized clear containers,

and the kitchen’s savory aroma is delicately sliced

through with coffee, tea, and pies of all flavors.

The crackling night ends with the lighting of

the nine-foot Christmas tree safely placed

beside the brick fireplace. The youngest

climbs up the ladder and ignites the

gold star which fell from outer space.

The following morning, we gluttoned

terrestrials will enter the dangerous

reaches of cyberspace, and proceed

to spend all of our hard earned

money in the online marketplace.
