Holiday Ease
A member of a family takes a load for a while.
Set down, the fire is warm.
Take off your wet coat.
The smells of ham to your nose swarm.
You smile and think of this boat.
We’re out on the lake and enjoying this.
There’s time to wash up for the meal.
There are games you don’t want to miss.
It’s about loving the time and what you feel.
The cracked pepper engulfs the senses.
You smile with your aged skin.
After dinner you play a game of tenses.
Your chortle enlightens the raucous din.
You are our patriarch and deserve the best.
You have championed all of the rest.

Smartystan
Four years later…. Today, the Shelthams watched the news. Intently, they discovered that there could be a new leader of the nation-state of Smartystan. Mala and Sheltham sat with their boys around the television and interacted with the questions and smart functions. They had voted earlier but harbored differences on key issues. For example, they answered questions about the current president, Glenn Goshen. They knew his politics, respected and even liked him. Mala didn’t like his fiscal policy. Sheltham enjoyed the elimination of all regulations and controls under Goshen. Still, they fought.

Rachel Reviews: The Spiral Archive by Pieter Hendrik
It's difficult for me to know where to start with a review of this book as it was, for me, an entirely unique experience and one that I'll probably never have again. I don't want that to be interpreted as unenjoyable but it has left me scratching my head a little and ruminating on its content, its themes and its characters.
