His Whiteness

a Poem for Women of Color

By Han TangPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

He hides in his whiteness

A privilege by birth

By race

By colonialism

Genocides

And slavery

He hides in his whiteness

Denounce all responsibilities of wrongdoings

In the past

In the present

In the future

White privilege

Given by god

Because his people were chosen

Or so he says

He hides in his whiteness

I do too

Privilege by association

By friendship

By marriage

By mix-raced children

It’s a worldwide prejudice, belief, or whatever you want to call it

So I hide in his whiteness

For validation

For social status

For protection

As a woman of color

I am deeply aware of his whiteness

The good the bad the arbitrary BS

More than he does

He hides in his whiteness

I hide in his whiteness

We hide in his whiteness

All of us

Everyone on this planet

Hides in whiteness

We adhere to his rules

His interpretation

His regulation

His religion

His laws

And his aesthetics

He points the finger and we follow

Accept

Obey

And maintain

We hide in his whiteness

As if it’s right

As if it’s the only way

As if it’s God’s will

We

People of color

Natives who sprout from the earth

Sharing its color

Connected to the land and the sea

Why do people of color had to bow down to whiteness?

Isn't whiteness just another color?

Or did whiteness come from another planet?

More superior and wise

So we must kneel

We must submit

And hide ourselves

Our humanity

Our true being

In his whiteness

No

No

NO!

Dissemble that whiteness

And see all the color that made it what it is

Then return us

To rainbow
