Highway

a poem

The dimly lit sky passing by

Trees and mountains along the side

Giant silver objects aglow in red

Pass each other on a painted line.

I sit here in this vehicle, wondering, pondering,

Transmissions, speeding through to the gateway of life

Passing through the triumphs, struggles, and the strife

Milestones and markers remind us of where we have been.

Robert Frost comes to mind, but I'll make it

A little different, because he took the road less traveled by

And I, I want to take the road for me.

The road that I pave, the road that I made,

My road "less traveled by", is this highway

Of thoughts, ideas, connections.

I look down the road at what's before me:

Two directions, painted either way

The decision to turn to the left or the right

The decision that you will make today

May determine your future, whether dim or bright

Up ahead, across the bridge, a shimmering light

The end of it all, the passing of time

Giant silver objects, aglow in red

Pass each other on a painted line.

The Frost reference was a lovely touch, and the idea of paving your own road is so empowering.
