High IQ

True story in poem form

By Brynne NelsonPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

“I have a high IQ,”

Even if it’s true

Is not a defense for anything.

See, *i* have a high IQ—

They tested it as part of my migraine screenings—

And I scored a 139 with an 8/10 migraine burning in my brain.

Genius level is 140.

But a high IQ

Does not mean i can’t be

Unbelievably dumb. I’m looking for my keys while my keys are in my hand.

And,

A high IQ is not a defense against evil.

This is not Dr Who;

Cleverness is not the alternative to being nasty.

And,

My IQ is not something I had to work for.

It was gifted to me

By a loving God

For the betterment of mankind.

Kindness, however—

Compassion, love, charity, goodness—

These are the skills I have had to cultivate.

Having a high IQ doesn’t qualify me for every job,

And certainly doesn’t mean i would automatically do well in power

Any more than having a low IQ means someone is unkind, criminal, bad.

Also,

Having a high IQ has made me more prideful

And impatient

Than choosing compassion ever did.

Do you know what IQ measures?

Spacial awareness.

Memory.

Pattern recognition.

Do you think these are the most important things

About a human?

About a leader?

Me, neither.

Anyway,

These are some things

That have been on my high-IQ mind.
