Hidden Secrets

Dream's Stories

Hidden Secrets

There was a place now lost in time,

Faces of people who were kind.

In childhood years stolen by clocks,

Tattered memories with holes much like socks.

We venture into those places gone by,

Some are playful, some make us cry.

But whether whimsical or remorseful,

We hold them dear, making us grateful.

Pondering what each might have meant,

Seconds of a life that was sent.

Each made us stop to see what was done,

To bring us out of darkness into the sun.

Shadows surround me and rightfully so,

Has been decades since then, now I’m old.

In my younger years, nothing escaped my watchful eye,

And over the years to many I’ve said goodbye.

Good-bye to the ramblings, adventures many,

Goodbye to days of sunshine, there were plenty.

Good-bye to the dirt roads under my bare feet,

Seeing crops in the fields, that memory I keep.

Hidden away from the world, it’s not like the first,

Where simple things quenched every child’s thirst.

Today’s world’s strange, new-fangled gadgets,

Hold no comparison and are temporary habits.

In time these too will go their way,

Swallowed up in echoes or so some say.

Time has a way of keeping its secrets out of sight,

It’s called memories that I relive every night.
