Hidden Message
A poem about what society wants me to hide.
By Cat the AutistPublished 3 months ago • 1 min read

Anonymity is the identity I must pick over individuality.
Under no circumstances am I allowed to stand out from the crowd.
To be my true self is to remove myself from society permanently.
I try not to be sensitive, but everything sets me off.
Senses are thrown off by the lightest touch or simplest of sounds.
Tell me what I’m doing wrong so I don’t have to reread the signs for eternity.
I wish I didn’t have to sacrifice my genuine self and interests to be loved.
Can you take the time to read my special message that I’ve hidden in here?

I wonder if Iʻm feeling deeper into this than is posed, or perhaps you moved in me exactly what you intended - well done! The question at the end really wakes the reader and prompts a reread. I have an answer but donʻt want to spoil it for others hehe
