Hidden
In Plain Sight

Do you think of me? I sat over there.
The quiet girl with the dirty blonde hair.
At my little desk, way in the back.
Hunched behind all the books that I stacked.
I kept myself hidden behind my disguise.
But you always noticed with your sharp, tired eyes.
The daily bruises I hid with my hair.
Every single day, I felt your fresh stare.
You must have guessed the hell I endured.
I'd say I fell, you weren't reassured.
After school, I went home to my cage.
Trapped with my father, and with his rage.
Until that day, I didn't come to school.
You marked me truant, which was the rule.
The officer on duty went to my house.
Through the window, he spied my torn, stained blouse.
Though it's the day I lost my life.
I don't regret ending the strife.
The police came and put up their tape.
With angel wings, I made my escape.
Stop crying, can't you see?
I was finally free.
