It’s going to be another hot day today.
25 degrees and sunny.
True to the television weather report
The sun beams in through the window, lighting up my bedroom.
*
It should be an ordinary day, but –
My youngest son is doing his first day of paid work,
A real job.
Independence.
*
It’s what we want, our kids to grow up and gain their independence...
...but I can’t help but remember him,
And his brother, giggling over their fantasy world.
The Adventures of Noo.
*
They played Noo for years,
The Portal Gang, the Weird Scientist, (his awful wife), and others.
They played out in the snow and built snowmen,
We spied on them through the window and watched them having fun.
*
That lanky teen used to be a smiling toddler.
My Mum job isn’t done – I must cut hair and drive them around.
But I know my days are numbered.
I forecast warm feelings and tears today.

I remember, though it was so long ago. Now I feel old. 😂
Yeah, today is a weird day. Nice for them both to have finally left and youngest to be onto a new stage in his life, even if it's small steps, but also nervous and just hopeful for him too. This is a beautifully written poem, that I find relatable for obvious reasons, but I think it's relatable in general too! 💓
Awww, they just grow up so fast, don't they. Loved your touching and emotional poem!
