Here Comes the Deep

Stop Running

The Deep is always with me

Tied tighter than a shadow

Embrace familiar as a kiss.

It slides behind my eyes

Stealing sparkles soaking joy

Speaking its truth with subtle hiss.

From outside it seems I function

Collected calm involved with life

Inner me is dodging from its touch.

Despair, depression? Whatever you say

Naming isn’t cure or balm

Sinking into it and sleeping wouldn’t take much

Who and why? How do I fight it?

Does it matter if I stop?

Sink into cold and final embrace?

I’ve known contentment, joy and laughter

Know also fear and hope and pain

The Deep swallows futures and leaves no trace.

Well-wrought! It's an eternal struggle, I think, and we've all our different ways of dealing with it! “Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche

There are so many powerful lines here, Judey, but "Naming isn't cure or balm" speaks volumes.

  • "Naming isn't cure or balm" That line was so deep. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️

😔Last line works very well! And these lines stood out to me the most, Judey. “From outside it seems I function Collected calm involved with life Inner me is dodging from its touch.” Poignant and I’m sure relatable for many. Take care too..it’s a wild world out there. 😊

  • Powerful poem...

Wow, this is hauntingly beautiful and powerfully raw. The imagery of "The Deep" as an ever-present shadow is striking, and the way it juxtaposes internal struggle with external composure is so impactful. A thought-provoking piece that truly resonates.
