Here

Retrospective images of untroubled and simple youth.

A whisper of yesterday; a memory that can’t soothe.

A world of greenery, merriment, and light.

Imagination ruled the day, and the obscure night.

Protected from the ways of a crumbling world.

Possessed by joy, a gentle wind swirled.

The sun passed swiftly overhead,

as adolescence died with dread.

The worlds of magic abandoned to fall and decay.

Every footprint dulled into another ordinary day.

Laughing and singing masked a pitiful pain.

Countless feeble attempts to dance in the rain.

As purpose and meaning dwindled,

out of happiness a life was swindled.

A place to stand, and a place to belong.

Transfigured to a quiet hopeless song.

A fight against death,

for one more painful breath.

A beaten heart hiding from years of detection;

locked away by stings of unrequited affection.

The majesty of sunrise ushers in a solitary clash.

Torn asunder between triumph and smoldering ash.

In a land with a dark and unsure tomorrow,

where is one to place a heavy deep sorrow?

For now, I’ll stand on this spinning sphere.

Yearning to be anywhere…but alone here.

I enjoyed the cliff hanger at the end felt like it was a start of a book. Maybe a prologue to the beginning of a quest.
