Her Summons

A Sonnet

Her summons used to frighten and confuse

I resented her loud, silver music

Now I know I was a fool to refuse

I understand her language is ludic

How quickly we forget what playing is

How to rub out the world and build our own

When she calls me, it is to freedom's bliss

In all of our skins, wolf seeds have been sown

A terrifying bite taught mine to bloom

And now you all seem frauds to my wild eye

She taught me to shed my absurd costume

To hunt and howl and quaint old lies defy

Pretend you are no beast; be a meek fool!

By her light, I follow a lupine rule

Sonnet
