Her Perspective

The Woman in Traffic

Misery and monotony on faces everywhere,

Everyone driving slowly in despair.

Wishing anywhere they could be
,

Then on this freeway moving so slowly.

For miles and miles the line drags on,

Singing a loathsome depressing song,

Of minds wishing they could be,

Anywhere but this state of mental drudgery.

The lower the state of their minds,

The longer and the slower seem the lines.

But look there! One vehicle stands out,

Next to me through closed window I hear a shout!

The woman within with windows down,

Sings joyfully along with stereo sound.

With feet holding down her vehicles brake,

She dances from waist up the beautiful motions as of a snake.

Such joy in her heart it cannot be missed,

While others stare at the road continuously pissed.

She seems not care if others may look and may see,

She is in her own world loving life and living joyfully.

I watch her dance for a while,

And slowly my lips break into a smile.

She inches on toward where the freeways merge,

And within me now I find a rising urge,

To roll down my windows and crank up the sound,

To light a cigar, to smile and not frown.

I look to the distant mountains white with snow capped peaks,

Never minding the nearby sounds of traffic and brakes that squeak.

I am not stuck in traffic as it may seem!

Nay rather I take the vacation I’ve dreamt in my dreams.

I relax my mind and finish my drive,

Never again looking to my watch or counting the time.

Thank-you dear woman whom I may never again see,

Your carefree happiness is a true and beautiful rarity!
