It is my cheeks

when I laugh

When I cry

When I am mad

or feeling shy

Flush

Easily

I blush

Naturally

Sheepishly

You can tell how

I feel

with just

one

look

at

my face

At times my greatest weakness

At times my greatest grace

It is my face when I am in the sun too long

And it is the sun itself

A warm and familiar face

Even to strangers

Like the friend I made today

A gift for making connections

Even to those unlike me

To those that would

not have

otherwise had

the courage

to say

hello

It is the lens

through which I choose to see the world

It was my favorite

When I was a little girl

It was one of the few things

that made me ‘fit in’ with the rest

One part of the status quo

I actually chose to follow

It is the type of lens in an optimist’s pair of glasses

as if hope and positivity

are to be dismissed

Yet I see what others miss

So I insist on re-framing their lenses

Until we come to consensus

That love and happiness

Continue to exist

And will persist

And it is the yolk of my eggs

Which I eat – at least – two of per day

Yesterday, I thought they made

the shape of a yin yang

As if harmony in all of its span

Could fit into my tiny pan

And it is the sun rays

That make days

That crack through the clouds

After thunder

and showers

have crashed

and poured

for hours

It fills our spirits

and overflows

Where it goes

only Source knows

Spilling to our surfaces

Sparkling like gold

When I love another person

Whether new to me or old

It is my favorite stone

You know

the one that represents

the heart

Like the kind I wrap in copper wire

It then hangs from ears and necks

Sometimes right above or

right next

to

the heart

Where grounded tenderness

Meets higher consciousness

And it is the brighter stripes of the bumble bee

My primal zodiac species, apparently

born on the ‘Birthday of Originality’

It is, in French, what we’ve come to know as a flower

~My favourite flower~

Whose fragrance I purchase in precious, pricy perfumes

It floods my nostrils as

I inhale

And I remember

That I too

can have

the toughest of thorns

and be

the most delicate of flowers

And I release

Deep exhales

Exhales that blow

for wishes from seeds

Of one of the most

common of weeds

And it is this weed

Intimidating

perhaps even a nuisance

at first

Yet a medicine

When understood

When nurtured

And it is the center of my gut

my self-esteem

my ego

Like an aura

they fill my body

head

to

toe

Illuminating from my spirit

Mind

thoughts

and core

As if my soul spills

my heart and my mind

Onto these pages

until my wrists get sore

I am bright and loud

Often bold and proud

Yet soft and sweet when I need to be

Like banana, raspberry, peach

I can bold as neon

and soft as pastel

I ‘fit in’ by standing out

Can’t you tell?

And it is this light

that shines on this paper

It is this pen

It is this ink

My inner colours

so, I think

And it is yellow

It is pink
