A Prelude

my heart works in overdrive

trying to hold on to you

trying to let you go

the result is restless nights

waking up in cold sweat

tears and post nasal drip with my morning cereal

can we go back

to when I knew less about us

what about the nights we spent talking in your old place

you thought you heard me whisper

wrapped in the warm glow of new love

and innocent expectations

of forever

my heart cries bitterly

why couldn’t you be right for me

why couldn’t I be right for you

the pain has just begun

heartbreak
