Heart that can't remember

I've always had a thing for you.

You, and your beautiful eyes blue.

You have a way over me, I have no control.

When I'm with you I just fold.

You make me laugh and its so easy...

the sweetest things from your lips, making me feel queasy.

Anything with you feels like a tiny adventure.

Oh, how I wish it could be this way forever!

But you are cunning in your ways...

you know all of the right things to say.

I fall for them every time til I'm on the verge of tears.

When will I learn after all these years?

You come and go and back again...

My heart can't adjust to you being just a friend.

But what you say in the dark never holds up.

Feelings of love and lust are all mixed up...

Next thing I know, you and your actions fall flat.

Oh, how I wish my heart could remember that!

Because it always ends the same...

maybe it's best to just forget each others names.

  • I've been through this exact same thing. So sad to know that you have too. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️

The rhyme on these lines, "Next thing I know, you and your actions fall flat. / Oh, how I wish my heart could remember that!" makes the frustration so present. The sharpness of the words draws the rhythm along too. Loved this!
