He Couldn’t Trust Himself

a poem inspired by relationships

no trust by Solomon

In a world of shadows, where secrets reside,

There lived a man, haunted by his own pride.

He couldn’t trust himself, not even a bit,

For his heart was a labyrinth, where darkness would sit.

Her eyes, like stars, shone with a gentle grace,

But he feared his touch would taint her delicate face.

He yearned to hold her, to feel her warmth near,

Yet the demons within him whispered words of fear.

He couldn’t trust himself, for his past was stained,

With mistakes and regrets, a heart that was pained.

He knew the depths of his own wicked desires,

And feared they would consume her, like raging fires.

Her laughter, like music, danced in the air,

But he feared his presence would bring her despair.

He longed to be her shelter, her guiding light,

Yet the darkness within him clouded his sight.

He couldn’t trust himself, for he was a storm,

A tempest of emotions, waiting to transform.

He knew the chaos that dwelled deep inside,

And feared it would consume her, leaving her denied.

Her touch, like silk, ignited his soul,

But he feared his embrace would devour her whole.

He yearned to protect her, to keep her from harm,

Yet the shadows within him whispered their charm.

He couldn’t trust himself, for he was a beast,

A creature of darkness, longing to be released.

He knew the power he held within his core,

And feared it would consume her, forevermore.

Her love, like a lifeline, reached out to him,

But he feared his touch would make her love dim.

He longed to be worthy, to deserve her heart,

Yet the doubts within him tore him apart.

He couldn’t trust himself, for he was a flaw,

A broken soul, yearning for what he saw.

He knew the fragility of her tender heart,

And feared he would shatter it, tearing them apart.

In a world of shadows, where secrets reside,

He couldn’t trust himself, not even a stride.

For he loved her too much, to let her be,

In the clutches of a man, who couldn’t trust himself, you see.

Very powerful depiction of doubt and self resentment here.
