He Comes By

Death's Long Wait

By Whitney JohnsonPublished 7 years ago 1 min read
He's always waiting

I see him very often

I see him in their faces,

He feels them with fear and joy,

I see him as a close stranger.

But he knows me by name,

He was there when I was born

And he’s been here all along.

He visits the elderly and they typically say Hi!

He visits the new mothers and they scream No!

Each family is left to mourn

Never knowing why he came.

All they seem to know is he took them away.

We were told it’s natural

That it happens to everyone,

But sometimes it’s not.

Sometimes he does it to take away the depression,

Taking us somewhere better,

Just because this world is not right for us.

He wants to give me another chance,

I take it

But it’s still not the same.

The emptiness is still there.

After falling for so long,

And being gone from the world-

I now know to stay,

But now there’s a meaning to it all.

Never stop trying

Always aim high,

Do what you can

To make this world better.

He’s always wanting the best for us

He guides us along the way,

Until the day he carries us away.

We’ll never really be ready but ,

at least we’ll have an old friend with us.

Life can be a beautiful thing, but death is just more fun. For there to be balance in the world if there is a new life one must be taken.
