Runner-Up in Things You Can’t Say Out Loud Challenge

Stop wasting my fucking time

You regurgitate,

Ad Libya,

what you learned in history class—

while you kowtowed to a professor

who learned from the same professor

who learned from the same.

The acceptable version of truth.

The truth that lets

them sleep at night.

While the rest of us

can’t sleep—

thinking of genocides,

the cruelty of war—

and we’ve never

even been near a kindergarten

bombed

by the dictator

you’re so ready

to defend.

Posting your

numb

skull

'opinions'

for other

numb

skulls

to consume.

Like a makeup trend.

A hashtag.

An I know more.

Share.

Spread.

Infect.

Stop wasting my fucking time

Regurgitating propaganda

Like it’s the thing to lead you

To the promised land—

paved with drone footage

and denial.

There is too much information

In existence

For you to be this ignorant.

Excuses.

Colonialism runs deep

In education—

For those

Less

Discerning.

I am tired.

And my brain is melting

While tomorrow’s victims

Wait around the corner

To jeer at today’s.

We are wasting our time

Blowing up imagined enemies—

Paper silhouettes

We traced ourselves

Then taught you to fear.

We are wasting our time

Debating the merits of

War,

While the sun sets again

On a genocide.

What are we doing?

Insidious monsters,

Even in the light—

Televised,

Floodlit,

Framed in press conference smiles.

Proud patriotism,

Pathetic excuses

For debate.

Shutting down discourse

With falsehoods

And cotton wool.

For a wound

You’ll never have to dress.

Everyone is entitled

To their opinion.

But children

In Gaza –

Won’t even breathe

Tomorrow.

Whilst you tweet

Your meditations

On slaughter —

From both sides.

Now.

A western privilege

You think you

Deserve.

Sugar

With your

Latte?

Dear.

One spoon

Or two?

The acceptable version of the truth equals the lies that continue to kill. Such a powerful, stand-up and take-charge voice in your poetry!!!

YES. Glad we're still writing. Glad we're still speaking out. Till Palestine is free. "Stop wasting my fucking time Regurgitating propaganda Like it’s the thing to lead you To the promised land— paved with drone footage and denial."

Ouch... would it be in appropriate to make a pun and say "what a truth bomb?" But also, so tense and heartfelt!! Well done C&R!!

  • "For a wound You’ll never have to dress." That really hit me so hard. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this, both directly and indirectly 💔😭
