Bats are so interesting. I was just wondering why we associate them with this time of year. Then I thought …
duh! they eat insects, including flies, which are drawn to the ripe produce in the fields, which I imagine…
the folks would have been trying their damnedest to keep it from rotting so they could preserve or sell it quickly for the coming winter.
The closer it got to rotting, the more flies, and therefore more bats, were present.
So bats must have become this sign of foreboding, somehow.
I’m just putting two and two together, not saying I’m right, I don’t know this for sure, but I makes sense, n’est-ce pas?
