Life has made her cruel.
Life has made her hard.
Life has made her cynical, critical, and distrustful.
Life has fucked up her mind.
Pardon her but she can't turn this shit off!
She's been taught that her emotions do not matter.
She's been taught that she is insignificant to others.
She's been taught to sit down, be good, and shut up.
So, she did what she had to do at some point. What anyone would...
She built walls around herself.
The walls are tall, thick, impenetrable.
All this so she can't get hurt again.
Life is hard and C-PTSD is no fucking joke!
She surrounds herself with reminders of why the world is not to be trusted.
Why? So, she is never hurt again and so she knows what to look for in people.
She protects her heart and her children with her life.
It's all she has after all.
Men have always come and gone, never to be trusted but her children she made and she will die protecting them.
They say relax, calm down, it's going to be okay.
And part of her knows it will and she should calm down but the other part of her can't be reasoned with, the cynic.
The cynic says to trust no one.
The cynic says everyone is out to get you.
The cynic says everyone wants to hurt your children so watch out.
The cynic says no one is on your side.
The cynic says everyone is guilty of the worst possible crimes until proven innocent.
Even the darkest of dark crimes.
Life has been harsh and unfortunately, this is her truth.
And don't take this the wrong way, she doesn't like living here in the harsh.
She tries to believe in the good in people.
God, how hard she tries!
But life is harsh, as she sees this every day in her line of work and she has to do what she can so it doesn't touch her and her family.
This is a harsh life and she is doing the best she can.
About the Creator
Lindsey Altom
For me, writing runs in the blood. I've written songs, poems and short stories ever since I was a little girl. I mostly like to write about my life experiences mixed with a little fiction or just things that come off the top of my head!
