Happy Mother’s Day to Thelma Mae
My Mom, Forever & Always
My mom had a massive heart attack as she was to her roses. My brother and I produced a production as her funeral to be joyful. I wore a red dress, red tights, and red high heels. We sang the song by Elvis Presley, "Mamma Liked the Roses". Every word that you hear from the song is what happened. I Mod Podged her roses. I did place them in the family Bible. I will share the song that was the theme for my mom. She loved music, art, and decorating her home.
Mamma Liked the Roses
by the late Elvis Presley

I remember my mom, Thelma Mae
Today is Mother's Day
It is May 11, 2025
My mom passed on at the early age of 65
The lady was eccentric
Mom was outspoken
Truth and honesty were her attributes.
She contributed
To society as a progressive woman
Mom believed in women using birth control.
On day she would be happy
Next day she would be sad
Then she would be angry
If I had been bad
Her heart attack was sudden
A spontaneous combustion of energy
I was there with her as she lay dying
She told me a prediction of sorts
That my ex would control
The stealing of my children after the divorce in 1989.
As a wonderful mother, I had forgotten her dream
Of ill repute to capture my soul
So, I was told.
Now at 75
I am still alive
On my dime
Sublime
I still have my soul
As I am so bold
Empath of dreams and visions
Of so many decisions
Of many choices in youth and early adulthood
I miss my mom
So, I authored a poem for her today
As I walk my life’s pathway,
Of different crossroads
One less taken
Of freedom
Of an artist so true
Sometimes outspoken when I hear lies
I sigh and thank my mom for her guidance
Thelma was an artist
And painted flowers of sorts
Today I remember her as a friend
Standing beside me always
I miss her today.
I will always remember her eccentricity, her strength, her convictions, and the profound influence she had on my life. I could author a book of woven memories, emotions, and reflections of my life with my mom.

So beautiful and a wonderful tribute to your Mom. Love you!
Thank you, Lawana, for this moving thoughtful piece dedicated to your late mother. Through your resonant poetry, it made me want to meet her. While this cannot happen, of course, I can relish your gorgeous lines. Thanks, again, and happy Mother’s Day’s.
