happy birthday

Born in a stable, laid in a manger in the land of His ancestors who were His children. Born into flesh to deliver us, He was there when light was spoken into being in the darkness of the earth.

Everyone was expecting someone differen- a king, an authority, a warrior that had come to crush their enemies and rule over the land. They never expected a baby boy born to a simple girl who was in Bethlehem because of her new husband's census law to return to his ancestral land. A very pregnant girl who humbly settled on the shelter of a stable because there was no room anywhere else. Could the Savior of the world really be sleeping in a stable un-noticed?

The angels announced His birth to the shepherds in a joyous but startling display that was directed not at kings or high-ranking religious leaders, but instead one of the lowliest societal groups, the shepherds who lived out with their flocks.

Though they were still shaken by the news revealed from the heavens, they obeyed and went into Bethlehem, where they found a newborn baby boy swaddled in a manger in the local stable.

They knew what no-one else knew except for Joseph and Mary, that this little baby was the Messiah who had come to save the world.

And the rest is history....

“And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
