Happiness Comes in Waves

Healing Salted Wounds

By Jess KPublished 7 years ago 1 min read

I’m afraid of the waves that might bring you back to shore,

the boat you could get on when you realize you wanted more.

That life jacket you kept by your side as a safety measure,

when it was really my heart that you didn’t want to treasure.

That you’ll be drowning in my waters, wishing you knew how to swim-

finding someone better, that you didn’t just meet on a whim.

But I’m tired of sitting and imagining what might be,

because I’m the happiest when I think of you and me.

The way you breathe so softly, and gently kiss my cheek-

every little thing you do, every moment makes me weak.

You’re the best thing to come into my life in a long time,

a rare shell on the beach that I’ve been searching to find.

So I’m going to ask you this question, in hopes you feel the way I do...

because I’m absolutely taken back by everything about you.

Will you be the person who walks by my side?

when the waters are low or coming in at high tide.

Even when the waves get rough, I promise to keep you close-

always making sure you feel safe, through the highs and lows.

I want you to be my girlfriend, not just a person that I know...

but the one who I can tell people is the girl I won’t let go.
