"Hang in There!"

A Generational Chant

So, you must be wondering how I got here.

It's a funny story really!

It began with the promise of kitty snacks,

so long as I could answer questions well -

lift my paws when commanded -

and get good numbers on a piece of paper

to reassure future owners who don't know me

that I am worth something.

Then once I did that they said, "do it again!"

This time I had to do it while willingly parting

with the kitty snacks I had already collected,

and maybe earn back everything I spent

in the hopes that I got a role they promised was there.

So I accomplished that, and got a piece of paper

that said I was good at what I spent all my kitty snacks on,

but when I went to get that role that was promised,

a robot answered, "this is now an automated position."

I tried a different role, and another, and another -

all were taken, or expecting experience or a 'kitty-mobile'

which I had not been able to gain,

because no roles in my field were available.

So I looked to try a different path,

but I had no more kitty snacks, and I still had to pay them back

even though they did not deliver on their promises.

I could barely afford to feed myself,

let alone build a foundation on which to stand on,

or a roof with which to shelter under,

and yet they deemed me "not cute enough", a "leech on society."

And so here I am hanging on for dear life,

using everything in my arsenal:

claws, teeth, muscle and pure stubbornness,

because I refuse to let go

of the promise that should have been there

to catch my fall.
