Hang Fire

A Sonnet

An AI Generated Image

The rent for my terrible home is high

The utilities are not included

My neighbors are fading fast, as am I

Many are terrified; some, deluded

Demagogues plagiarize their suffering

Steal their anger and sell it back to them

Maniacal birds enjoy twittering

Reducing sacred texts to apothegms

When the ratings for your sad life dwindle

When the script is full of wrinkled cliches

When every deal seems a clever swindle

And you must part with more than you can raise

Remember: being finite is alright

Melting is the cost of creating light

Sonnet

Reminds me of Marco "melting" into the couch the other day.

I’m with Dharrsheena, those lines were great! The volta at the end brings some hope, but a sad hope

  • "Demagogues plagiarize their suffering Steal their anger and sell it back to them" I especially loved those lines. And I learned a new word today, apothegm!
