Hair Ties That Bind

Love, Elasticity, and Entanglement

You’re a ponytail

The way I imagine you in my hair,

Tugging gently,

Reminding me

Of your eternal mark

On my mind.

Everlasting light,

Just out of sight.

The year-round tan line

Firmly wrapped around my wrist.

Relentlessly burned into creation

Day after day.

A clue that this body adventured,

Was adventured.

The indescribable relief of a cool breeze,

Hair sensuously sweeping across my neck.

Goosebumps I wish to bottle,

Most noticeable in your absence.

The uncomfortable elastic band,

That wears out over time.

Something I could never find

When I needed it most

So I cut my hair short.
