I love everything about it
The way it rest on my shoulders
The way it flows down my back
The way it makes me feel when it’s styled
Or the way it makes me look when I wake up
It’s a journey, my journey
I remember when I started
And how I got to where I am now
I remember the wash days
The strain it would put on my arms
I remember the nights it would get in my face
How I remember each night to put it up
How it’s thickness keeps me warm during the winter
And how it makes me sweat during the summer
It’s been with me during my hospital visits
My doctor visits
It stayed strong for me when I couldn’t take care of it
And how it continues to stay strong even when I get the chance
Sometimes, I’m not the best at keeping up with it
But it’s still there
I start to see a gray strand or two
It even lets me know when my body is changing
It’s telling a story
Our story
The pain we endured
How we knew we were stressed as it would shed
But as it sheds, it makes room for new
My hair is a tree trunk of stories
And the length are my rings that show age
I love my hair
And the journey we are on
Together

This is such a warm and personal love letter to your hair! It’s got personality, resilience, and even a little sass (those gray strands sneaking in). Feels like a lifelong friendship—full of struggles, changes, and growth. Beautifully done!
I love this poem. I want to start my loc journey very soon but I am so scared. I have a love hate relationship with my hair, mainly because I don’t take care of it, and other personal stuff.
