Haiku Trip To Lidl
Grocery shopping list turned into a poem.

🎠
No market today
Last fair day on Saturday
Before eight o’clock
🛒
My weekly budget
of only ten quid a week
on groceries fails
🧋
More points for Shoppix
I hope there’s enough funds for
Matcha bubble tea
🍠
First, sweet potatoes
for chips, mash and winter soups
and they will go far
🍄
Next, chestnut mushrooms
nutritious, yummy and cheap
fine meat substitutes
🥦
No fresh broccoli
or cauliflower bouquet
frozen it is, then…
🍆
A bold aubergine
priced under sixty-nine pence
seems deliberate
🎃
Alas dear Pumpkin
the epic seasonal squash
and the right size, too
🍌
I love Bananas
they go so well in dishes
beyond British lands
🛍️
There was no tofu
and I forgot the kimchi
Let’s go to Waitrose
🍱
Home after a swim
I received a random call
Let’s get some sushi
🍣

This poem was written as a response to this challenge. I used the picture of my reciept as a guide. Shoppix is an app where you scan your grocery receipts and if you get enough points you can swap them for vouchers or PayPal cash. Lidl is a European grocery chain known for cheaper prices, but their fruit and veg don’t always last long. Waitrose is on the more expensive side, but have nice things there.

How fun! Loved the approach with haiku!
Fascinating approach. Well done.
Now I'm craving bubble tea and your poem made me hungry, lol. A clever take on the challenge!
Ooh, Chloe! How clever to do this in haikus, and I love that you based it on a real receipt. Ngl, that ending made me giggle, and now I'm craving miso soup. I'm getting the sense that this shopping trip did not yield as much as the speaker hoped for, haha. A miracle that the call came in, eh? 😝
That ending made me chuckle! Loved the actual receipt-Perfect 🤍 I've tried to like sweet potato, don't know why I just can't do it...which i find quite irritating!
Love this poem! That last part, though. 😜
Your work is truly commendable.
