Hagia Sophia

a poem

By T GalePublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Isidore, Anthemius

architects encapsulate

a dream bare, billowing

upon itself

a transverse, square pendentive dome — the best answer to the excessive angles or weak focus.

Holy Wisdom, Holy Word, Sancta Sophia

I was thinking balance,

the scales of justice and what

you do with its presence

in the empire, like empire

you go to Constantinople or the center take in the sea, you remove

the gouge from your soul

which unlocks it to flare

up like the spewing clouds

of a volcano, then around all that build it

the way you feel: one burst after another

billowing through your soul.
