Growing Old

Verse 1
I’ve got laugh lines deeper than the sea
And stories that start with “You wouldn’t believe me”
I’ve danced in the rain, tripped on my pride
But I always got up with a joke on my side
Pre-Chorus
They say time takes its toll
But I say it takes its role
To turn fools into sages
Or grumps into cages
Chorus
It’s better to grow old with a sense of humor
Than to grow old with no sense at all
I’ll take the giggles, the snorts, the bloopers
Over bitterness and protocol
Let the knees creak, let the hair fall
I’ll be cracking jokes through it all
It’s better to grow old with a sense of humor
Than to grow old with no sense at all
Verse 2
I’ve worn socks that didn’t match
And told puns that made folks scratch
But laughter’s a balm, a rebel’s grace
It keeps the light in a wrinkled face
Bridge
So here’s to the wisecracks and the winks
To belly laughs and spilled drinks
To finding joy in the mess we make
And laughing loud for laughter’s sake
Final Chorus
It’s better to grow old with a sense of humor
Than to grow old with no sense at all
I’ll toast to the clowns, the dreamers, the bloomers
Who rise each time they fall
Let the world spin, let the rules stall
I’ll be telling jokes through it all
It’s better to grow old with a sense of humor
Than to grow old with no sense at all
