Grieving Daddy

A poem

By Ericka AndersonPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
My Family in 1978

So much of me has changed

Never to be the same

In the years since you took on a new dimension

A new structure

Form

Letting go the stress

The tension

That had trouble letting go of you

you were here

But now, that pain

Your pain

Is gone

I am left with it

The memory of it, anyway

If love were enough, you would have stayed

But it’s not

There’s more to life than grief

And when life is truly lived

Its brief

Even when it’s decades long

I can’t be me without you, dad.
