I never understood favorite colors
The decisiveness of it all
Like settling on a mortgage
Or a soul mate
I made up my mind
That they were all the same
Until I noticed the immensity of Green
Hiding in plain sight
Spilling out of my eyes
Onto the canvas of the world
Casually thriving while the other colors came
And went
It lives in perfectly manicured fields
Their familiar hue often overlooked
But a cohesive oneness
And expansive horizon of potential lay there
Or the unruly Amazon
Brimming with answers hidden in its roots
Its untamed vines like a playful spark of desire
Who knows what will grow there if we let it
More importantly to me
It’s the color of your eyes
How they struck when they first caught me
Reeled me in
Like pure magic
Not the typical kind,
The kind that pulls you thousands of miles
From your home
And places you in front of a stranger
Who’s electric touch helps you from a train
So charged that uninspired jaded blades
Stood on edge
It’s the color of envy, I’ll concede
But envy is misunderstood
I’m envious
That your lips are currently unoccupied
By mine
Of those who have explored your heart
Of memories on an emerald mountainside
Of the future us
It’s a perpetual elixir
Not burning out
Like the fiery passion of red
That eventually smolders
And is washed away
Like icy blue over stone
No, Green’s subtle love is life itself
Transcending the physical distance
That stands in our way
Manifesting our juniper connection
And leading me to a terminal
In your shamrock home
Full of hope
