GRANDMOTHER SHOULD SEE ME NOW

Rags to Curls

By Margaret BrennanPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

GRANDMOTHER SHOULD SEE ME NOW

She sat there with such patience.

As she set my hair in rags.

My curls were long and springy –

Not one ever sagged.

*

She’d brush my hair 100 strokes.

Before I’d go to bed.

She put the rags in one by one,

To keep the curls, she said.

As I approached my teenage years,

I knew without a doubt,

There had to be a way to say.

“No more rags! They’re coming out!!”

*

Many years have passed since then.

The length has changed a bit.

My hair has been different colors.

According to my wit.

*

I finally like my hair enough.

Where I feel I can take a bow.

It’s long and straight and turning gray.

My grandmother should see me now!
