Grandmother Moon controls all female life.

Much of the water life, spawns according to the cycles of the moon.

It is said that Grandmother Moon is especially close to women because she governs the woman's cleansing cycle, the natural cycle of menstruation known as the moon time.

I had no idea, that I would speak, directly to Nookomis.

And since that night, she has been speaking to me,

in my dreams,

ever since.

Dressed in a flowing white skirt, I drove past the river, until I reached the sanctuary.

We partake in a feast, but not before giving up an offering.

Schmitt Sohne Riesling.

Though it is humid, the night air was cool.

Each star, shining a bright, beaming light as if each one of us

owned one.

It was our sky.

It was our time.

The elder women lit a huge fire.

Sparks of fire light up the sky with reds and yellows.

The one with the beautiful voice extends a seashell and a bundle of sage to me to burn when I return to my quarters.

I show gratitude.

I feel the warmth of her smile.

We then write down what we hope to accomplish on paper.

Tied with a red ribbon.

One by one we burn our hopes and dreams in the fire.

Not in hopes of them failing.

They burn...in hopes to bring them to life.

But, before we can offer our life's purpose...

We have to go before her.

A guide, a protector, a guardian spirit, a timekeeper, associated with transformation.

Her name,

is Grandmother Moon.

When my turn arrived, I had no idea, I was being initiated into something that would change the course of my life.

I stood before her in the night sky.

I raised both arms and stared at her square.

No blinking.

I closed my eyes and saw the life, meant to me by destiny.

I spoke my truth and explained to her, "You know what I am trying to do."

"I just need your help, to do it."

And then slowly, it all began to pour out.

The tears of disappoint and joy.

Visions of a life where I no longer live

in poverty.

I was being guided to speak what was on my heart.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you word for word, what I said.

That is between,

Me and Grandmother.

I shouldn't be telling this story.

But I will tell you this:

Like a flower,

I began to experience precocity.

I began to feel a renewed feeling.

Deep down in my soul.

A wave of emotions came over me.

I was inducted into a "Hall of Fame"; indoctrinated spiritually into a group of mighty warrior women.

And now every time I see the moon,

following as she always did;

watching me light years away.

I know she is always with me and there, to remind me to "LOOK UP".

Like staring into a crystal ball,

she showed me my future.

A good life; full of abundance.

She told me those who had failed me,

will perish.

Their crops would die.

Their money would dry up.

I would receive justice for all my years of suffering.

Grandmother told me I would no longer grieve.

Telling me to stand tall,

and not wear my feelings on my sleeve.

Told me not to tell what she revealed,

because no one would believe.

I took the long journey back home.

Passing that same river, but this time I saw the light of her face

in the currents.

Guiding me home safely.

The whole purpose of the journey,

was for me to know that,

I am not alone.

I stood in the grass barefoot.

Calling to the sky.

She saw everything that was done to me, and

told me not to cry.

She said she does not come out much,

but, she looked forward to seeing me soon.

So, when I need some guidance,

I call on Grandmother Moon. -AK
